As we leave winter behind, we have selected five golf courses, which not only have a great selection of holes, are situated amongst the vibrant towns and scenic countryside of Yorkshire.

Alwoodley, Leeds, West Yorkshire

Alwoodley Golf Course — one of three in Alwoodley — was designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie. Dr MacKenzie originally trained as a surgeon and served as a civilian doctor in the Boer War and World War I where he made significant contributions to military camouflage, which he saw as closely related to golf course design.

As a founding member of Alwoodley Golf Club, he designed the golf course and went on to design more than 50 golf courses around the world.

Alwoodley is a natural heathland course, with springy fairways cutting through a profusion of heather, whins and shrubs. It features eye-catching and naturalistic-looking bunkers, strategic choices, and large, often undulating greens.

The town of Kirkbymoorside has had a market since the 13th century, making it one of the oldest market towns in Yorkshire.

There is plenty of accommodation nearby such as the Kings Head Hotel and the luxury Feversham Arms Hotel which features a spa and outdoor pool.
